Snow Day!

Today we woke up to this

And when this happens in our area, that means NO SCHOOL! And this normally doesn't happen, but this is what was next

This cinnamon roll coffee is so good, and so is the chocolate glazed donut flavor that comes in the same pack! It has made me stop going to Starbucks! So we enjoyed the morning at home.
While I was doing this

Jack was doing this

NOOOOOO! Luckily I caught him just in time! The rest of the morning was great;I got to hold Jack through his morning nap and I got to watch part 2 of the reunion episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills! I love it! Everytime a new Real Housewives comes out I say that I am not going to watch it...but, I end up getting sucked in and I can't stop watching it! This season I loved Kyle, I actually liked most of the ladies and I can't wait until the 2nd season! I did hear that the show is starting up in Miami, but I am excited for the next season of the original Orange County housewives! I need Vicki, whoooooop whoooop!
Anyway, snow days are great, but we are ready for some warm weather so we can do more of this

Catching up

So I am sitting here with a sick baby sleeping on me and thought.....maybe I should update my blog. There have been a lot of things going on over here, so where should I start? I briefly hinted that there were a few "things" with our house when we first looked at it. So much so that our real estate agent said, "are you sure?" when we said we wanted to put in an offer on it. I mean it could have been the overwhelming smell of pot when we walked in or the dried vomit on the carpet??? We saw potential through the smoke (literally)! The outside didn't really need work, here it is.

We have done a lot of things to the house in the 3 1/2 years that we have lived here. Most recently we have put in new floors and fixed the island in the kitchen. When we moved in this is what the kitchen looked like:

I think that it looks pretty good. However, what you don't get from these pictures is the smell...doesn't Rachael Ray talk about "smellivison"....if there was a "smelliputer"...or something...you would be getting the scent of a frat house basement the morning after a party and I swear it was imbedded in the walls! We literally primed and painted EVERY single wall! Please note the liquor bottles on top of the cabinets! See, I told you it was very reminiscent of a frat house! In the kitchen, we have painted the walls, removed a wall, painted the cabinets black, and most recently finished up the island. It had a faux brick finish on it which I liked, but once we painted the cabinets, it didn't really work with everything else. We thought about just painting the brick or adding bead board, but we ended up deciding to make it look like a cabinet. Here is the finished island.

I love how it turned out! I have to admit that I have been a blog stalker! I enjoy reading so many different blogs and I have gotten so many ideas from all these wonderful blogs. I saw the black cabinets somewhere in the blog world and the same with the island.

Here is the sweet boy who is not feeling too good today :-(

Finished (almost) Nursery

Well, we are done with the nursery! The only thing that we need is a the baby! He was due on Friday, but has not made his grand entrance yet. If he does not come on his own, we will be going in on Wednesday night for an induction. So, now on to the nursery! Our crib finally arrived and my Dad put it together while my mom and I supervised:
It is so beautiful, I just love it! We also got the matching dresser:

The oars above the dresser came from an old barn in Iowa. My parents got them many years ago and they have been hanging up in their gazeebo since then. My mom and I scrubbed them to get the dirt off and then hung them up! Here is a closer pic:
I really love them, they have so much character!

This little sign sits up on the shelf, I just love this saying, so cute!

This is my craft project for the room. I made this "J". I had the picture frame laying around so I thought that I would use it; after looking at a ton of fonts, I love the way that it turned out!

Here is Justin putting up the curtains. The blinds have not come in yet, but we do have curtains so baby Jack will have some shade in his room! Here is what they look like:
So this is what we are doing now, waiting:
These poor puppies have no idea what is about to happen at this house!

First Timer

Well, this is my first posting to the blog world. I have been reading and following a few blogs for a while now and have decided that I should go a head and give it a try! The first posting will be about the nursery that we are currently working on. Since we are expecting our first baby in April, we are working hard on the nursery. We will be having a boy and I wanted a very "spa/beachy/calming" feeling in the room.
When we moved into the house, the room looked like this (our house was infested with drug savy teenagers who absolutely destroyed it; but that is another story for another blog posting when I understand this stuff a little better):

Then we moved in and made this into our office/space for all the other stuff to go and it looked like this:

Not too pretty but it served its purpose. Since we are expecting our baby boy in April, it currently looks like this:

My husband convinced me to paint the trim white which I protested for a while, but I love the way that it looks...he wants to paint the rest of the trim in the house white too, but I am not giving in yet because I think that a lot of the character in our house comes from the wood work! But I love the white trim in the nursery and think that it looks great! We are planning on putting crown up in the room, but am not sure that we will actually get to it. The room has 3 great windows that provide so much light and wonderful views of the front yard. We have ordered the crib and the dresser, but they are not in yet; the only peice of furniture that we have so far is the glider which is extremely comfortable:

The pillow is the same print that we have for the bedding. It is a quilt and I absolutely love it - it is beautiful! The other part of the nursery that we have been working on is the closet. The room and closet are pretty small, so we wanted to optimize our storage potential. Here are my dad and husband working on Baby Jack's closet:

And here is what is looks like now:

Well that is all that we have done so far! I am currently looking for the right curtains and anxiously awaiting the arrival of our furniture!
